Protecting Your Privacy
Lifeline is preparing its organization to be fully compliant with the HIPAA Transaction, Privacy, and Security provisions. It has filed an Electronic Health Care Transactions and Code Sets Standards Model Compliance Plan to CMS (Confirmation number 1129642) as of September 10th, 2002.
Lifeline Systems, Inc is defined as a Hybrid organization under HIPAA. It's Government Services Division is considered a "Covered Entity" under the regulations and this division and the functions within the company that support this division will be compliant as a "Covered Entity".
For the vast majority of its business relationships, Lifeline is considered a "Business Associate" as it provides Personal Response and Support Services to the patients of Covered Entities on behalf of those Covered Entities. As such Lifeline will be compliant with HIPAA as a "Business Associate" to those organizations.
If you are a Lifeline Provider that uses Lifeline Monitoring Services your organization will receive the attached letter and agreement in the mail regarding HIPAA compliance. This Addendum must be signed and returned to Lifeline by April 1, 2003.
Some of Lifeline's relationships are not directly covered by the HIPAA rules and regulations and will not be impacted.
Robert A. Bushnell, Vice President and General Manager, Government Services has been appointed Lifeline's "Privacy Official and Contact Person and will be responsible for all HIPAA planning, implementation and communications.
